Video games vs movies, which one will win? Of course we do not have to discuss that the video game industry has taken a big part of the movie industry revenue. Hollywood is facing more and more competition as video games become more and more like movies. Have we seen the last of the the sliver screens days?
Is this the end of Hollywood? What do you like more? Which one: video games vs movies? The cool thing about great video games like Call Of Duty Modern Warfare is the fact that you feel like a Hollywood hero saving the world from evil. Video games give you power over the story itself. Now video games give me a feeling of power and excitement and that is hard to resist?
Most games give the player hundreds of hours of potential game play too, allowing a gamer little time to go to a movie.
But for the movies all is not lost. When movies came out, people thought that would be the end of reading, of buying books when the movies were introduced to the human-race, way back when. Over sixty years ago, when the boob tube, TV, came out people again thought that would be the end of movies. When Video game entertainment came out people thought that would be the end of TV.
The Apocalypse never happened. Why? What it boils down to is that the more people have the more people want to have. That's why Mall developers try and cram in as many stores as possible, and if another mall opens in the same area, that's great! More stores means more costumers.
It boils down to this: video games vs movies, is an impossible comparison because they are two different things. One is active, one is passive.
They both offer different experiences, for different times of day and moods. Being active is not always for me. A video game is like partaking in sports. The purpose of a movie is to passively kick back and be entertained, to sometimes romantically watch a movie with your partner. Sometimes I want to be a winner, a hero, the best I can be, that is what a video game gives me.
So what is the problem? Getting people into the theaters. How do they do this? By creating gimmicks like real 3D, or combining the film concept with a video game release. It is true that their might be less and less movie goers, but now we do not even have to leave the comfort of our home with VOD. In my opinion one of the best movie style video games of all time is the great game: Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2
