Mexico City - You Needn't Proceed Far On An Astonishing Trip

Mexico City - the capital of Mexico - makes for a great vacation destination because it offers something for everyone. Mexico City is an archaeological hotspot, it has an extraordinarily colorful culture and a long history, the city itself is very exciting, the markets are fun, and there is always something to do. Mexico City is actually built right on top of what once was Tenochtitlan, the capital city of the might Aztecs. People have been living in the area for a very long time. The city is one of the most populated in the world, with around 20 million inhabitants. If you are trying to find a great place to take a vacation, look into Mexico City. Before you go, however, make sure you and your family have passports or passport cards.

A passport card is relatively new option, and they serve as alternatives to the traditional passport with some pluses and some minuses. The passport card is the same size and shape as any other card in your wallet. It will cost about $45 each, but this is much cheaper than the standard passport. However, it can only be used to travel by car or boat, and it can only be used to travel to Bermuda, Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean. If a passport card sounds like the best option for you, log on to a passport service site and get yours. There are a variety of other passport services available as well, such as those that can replace a United States passport lost, get you a new passport if yours is damaged, and even change the name on your passport if you are recently married.

Historic landmarks are everywhere in the city, and many are definitely worth checking out. The Plaza de la Constitución, also known as Zocalo, is a great place to start. Second only to the Red Square in Moscow, it is one of the biggest public squares in the world. Around its perimeter are many important landmarks. The stunning Cathedral, City Hall, and the National Palace are just a few. The Cathedral, the largest in the Americas, has an altar constructed completely out of gold. Outside this area is the Basílica de Guadalupe is another important religious landmark and is regarded as the holiest Catholic place in the Americas.

One of the most important landmarks in the entirety of Mexico City is the Templo Mayor. This temple was once the most important temple in the Aztec empire, and it was only unearthed a few years ago. Archaeologists are always on site, attempting to uncover new artifacts. In the height of the empire, this temple was used for all sorts of religious ceremonies and is therefore a very important part in the historical record of Mexico. Another important Aztec site is Teotihuacan, an ancient city the Aztecs referred to as "The City of the Gods." The Pyramid of the Sun, the biggest pyramid by volume on the planet is located here.

Another interesting area to visit is the Chapultepec Park and zoo. In this area, you will also find the Museum of Anthropology, which contains a very extensive collection of artifacts, and a few other museums and attractions. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is a gorgeous theatre with world-famous murals on the walls. Concerts and other performing arts happen here, making it a great way to spend an evening.

Whatever sort of vacation you are looking to have, Mexico City, with its variety of opportunities,s is a great place to look into. Begin your trip by acquiring passport cards for yourself and your family. Don't forget that any other passport service - replacement for a pasport lost, a new passport, or a renewal of a passport - can be all done online.
