Lisbon - Home Of Renowned Explorers And Exquisite Scenery
Lisbon, the beautiful capital city of Portugal, is a gorgeous sea-front city famous for its bleached limestone buildings and relaxing atmosphere. It also enjoys nice weather, thanks to its balmy Subtropical climate. It's easy to understand the appeal of Lisbon, and its status as one of the most visited cities in Europe goes to prove this. If you have vacation plans taking you to Lisbon, be sure to get your passport first. If you are running low on passport pages, you can apply for more online.
Handle Your Passport Online
If you are short on time, going online to handle your passport problems can make things much easier. For example, if you have a passport but see at the last minute that it's expired, you can go online during any time of the day, apply for expedited passport renewals, and choose how quickly you'd like it to be delivered.
UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Lisbon is home to a couple UNESCO World Heritage Sites, one of them being the stunning and monumental Jeronimos Monastery. With contruction starting in 1501, this gorgeous building is a huge part of Lisbon's history, particularly because it houses the tomb of Vasco de Gama, a Portuguese explorer and important historical figure known as the "Admiral of the Indian seas" for his great voyages to India and back. The Tower of Belem is another important monument as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's located close by. This 16th century seaside fortress was constructed as a defense system during Portugal's Age of Discovery.
The Oceanarium
If you'd like to take a break from exploring the city, head to the well-known Oceanarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world. All sorts of animals can be found in the Oceanarium, from sharks and manta rays to pelicans and beavers. The aquarium itself is very large but the entrance fee is very inexpensive, making it a great way to cool off inside while still doing something interesting. If you're looking for a more natural getaway, head to the Jardim Botanico. This centuries-old garden was created by the King of Portugal who said he wanted one of every type of plant in the world. While this goal was never met, there are certainly some very interesting-looking plants in the garden.
Gulbenkian Museum
If you're interested in more of Lisbon's history, head to the Gulbenkian Museum, which holds ancient Persian and Egyptian art, as well as paintings by some of the most famous artists in the world: Monet, Rubens, Rembrandt, and more. Another scenic spot to visit is Cascais, a charming fishing village where royalty once lived. It's also the site of Cidadela fort and more important landmarks.
Lisbon's gorgeous seaside views and interesting culture and history qualify it as one of the best vacation spots in Europe. Just walking along its streets goes to show how its beautiful exterior matches its beautiful personality. If you are taking a vacation to Lisbon any time soon, don't forget to pick up your passport. If your passport is expired, expedited US passport renewals can be applied for online. If you are running low on blank USA passport pages, you can also apply for more online.
