What You Must Know About SCUBA equipment
If you are a novice diver, or fully experienced, you need to be aware of what scuba equipment you will need to do your diving appropriately. Most beginners wisely stick with the general diving conditions appropriate with their skill and knowledge level. To learn how to dive, and understand the basic gear that you will need, locate a certification course in your area and take it as soon as possible.
Do not forget that you will need to pass basic competency tests administered by a diving instructor. If you need help understanding any of the concepts presented, you will have a lot of time get things straight. scuba diving can be fun, but right now, let's take a look at the devices and equipment you will need to acquire.
Scuba diving that is open often includes the participant donning an air or gas cylinder and the components and devices associated with it. You will see that when you dive via an open circuit, it doesn't last as long as when you dive with a close circuit set-up or rebreather configuration. The general air combination for many if not all recreational divers is 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Years ago divers that were attired with dual cylinder backpacks were at a higher percentage rate. Still, this doesn't happen as much as the lone cylinder configuration currently. A diving type known as technical diving is where one discovers more twin pack wearing divers. The demand valve for the old-type "twin-hose" Cousteau-type aqualung was the first such configuration to gain widespread usage. As you can ascertain by the name "twin-hose", this system uses two cylinders and hoses, but it didn't start out that way. When Cousteau first designed the system it only had one hose, but when he tried it out in the river Marne there was a problem and it was necessary to add the second tube. This large valve assembly was attached at the top of the cylinder pack, usually with an A-Clamp. The important function of the second hose was exhalation that helped the air pressure of the breathing hose stay the same as the outside water. When the equipment was in the design stages, special factors had to be addressed to ensure the equipment would operate safely. For example, most units have a one-way valve placed into the mouthpiece to keep air or water from going into the inhalation tube.
You are probably familiar with what's commonly referred to as a BCD - buoyancy control device. If you want a BC that's a complete unit and all you have to do is attach the cylinders and regulator to be completely outfitted, then look into the Stab Jacket type of BC. One design consideration was to include a connection to the air or gas cylinder so the bladders could be inflated in a hurry if that became necessary. In a nutshell, the BCD contains bladders which will inflate either manually with a mouthpiece or when connected to air supply. When a diver needs to be able to stay at a certain depth easily, he or she uses their BC to maintain this neutral buoyancy by adjusting the volume in the bladders. There is different diving gear for different diving conditions. The equipment you will need will depend on what kind of conditions you will be diving in. When you are at a dive shop buying your equipment, make sure before you leave that you fully comprehend how each of the pieces operates. Also, when you learn how they work, you should make sure you understand how they will affect you underwater.
