The Documents Required To Fulfill American Passport requirements
For traveling to foreign countries, you are going to need a passport. If you have had one in the past and it is more than fifteen years old or if you have never had one before, you will need to know about the US passport requirements. Knowing what you will need in advance will save you a lot of time when you are ready to apply.
A Passport Is Recommended
Gone are the days of just crossing borders as we travel. We are now required to have a valid passport to enter or leave a foreign country. And for that to happen, we have to meet certain requirements.

Finding the application form can be done online. You can print it and take it with your documents to the appropriate facility when you are ready. There are several government businesses, such as Post Offices or libraries, that are authorized to issue passports so they are conveniently located for you.
Passport Offices
You can fill out the DS-11 application form online or it can be printed and filled in later. If you do not have access to a computer, it can be picked up at a facility. Do not sign the application ahead of time. This needs to be done in front of the agent.
Documents Expected
Documents that will be required will show your citizenship. Birth certificates from your state of birth are required to be certified, including both parents’ names. If born abroad, you will need a consular report or, if naturalized, you will need a certificate of naturalization.
Alternative Documents
Early public records along with a letter of no record will work as secondary evidence if you do not have your birth certificate. Some births are not recorded in a timely manner, within a year of birth, but delayed birth certificates are available. Again, this will be secondary evidence.
Children Passports
If you are born in a foreign country of an American parent, you will need to have your birth certificate from your country of birth, translated into English. You will also need evidence of citizenship of the American parent. Along with that, you will need your parents wedding certificate and a statement about the parents time and residence in the United States before going abroad.
Photocopy Of Documents
You will also be required to make photocopies of the documents that you are providing. Be sure you do your copies on clean white paper. Copy both sides of all of the documents on the front of each sheet only.
Types Of Passport
The fees for a passport will vary based on different criteria. The different forms of documentation you apply for include a passport book or card. You can also apply for both pieces at the same time. The fees for a person under sixteen will be less expensive. If you are in the United States when you are applying for your passport, you can also pay extra to have it expedited.
Passport Photos
Photos can now be taken at home rather than just by a photographer but there are still strict requirements in place. Before having the photo done, make sure that you understand all of the procedures that need to be met.

When you have your documents, photos and your money ready, you can go to the facility that you have chosen and make your American passport application application. Four to six weeks later, you should receive your passport.
